Learning and Development
Open markets, increasing competition and the need to manage customer touch points intelligently are some of the challenges we are facing today. The Group's philosophy of Learning and Development is a response to these challenges. It is a key thrust in the drive to fulfil our vision of building and sustaining a portfolio of diversified businesses, leading the way in strategic growth sectors of the Sri Lankan economy, achieving global operating standards and recognition.

The objectives of our Learning and Development policy are:
 
To build a pipeline of potential leaders at all levels; and
To inculcate necessary skills in our employees, enabling them to perform with competence and face business challenges effectively
 
The Learning and Development function supports every manager in his/her endeavour to build leadership capabilities among his/her staff, and to give them the exposure and competencies required to take on bigger roles and responsibilities.

Training Structure
The following training programmes are made available to John Keells employees on a needs/potential basis:
 
Leadership development programmes
Training programmes on John Keells behavioural competencies
Training programmes related to sector-specific competencies
Technical and functional training programmes
 
Group Human Resources
Group Human Resources also conducts organization-wide leadership programmes from Executive to Director levels, as well as training programmes focussed on the John Keells behavioural competencies.
 
Sector Human Resources
Technical and functional training is driven by the Sector Human Resources department of each individual Sector.

These include training programmes focussed on sector specific behavioural competencies, functional and technical training and training for non-executive employees.
