In times of national distress, both natural and man made, John Keells will play its role in leading or supporting measures towards providing relief to victims of such disasters and to assist in re-building lives, livelihoods and community infrastructure affected by such disasters.
The companies of the Group together with stakeholders and business partners of the John Keells Group have supported many initiatives in the past such as short and medium-long term tsunami-relief (including provision of housing, schools, etc.), flood relief, aid to internally displaced persons, etc. John Keells staff have readily supported such initiatives by voluntarily contributing material and logistical support in response to the Group’s call. Examples are the 2004 Tsunami and 2009 humanitarian crisis in the North and East following the climax and end of the conflict, where staff voluntarily contributed from their salaries and provided other support.
