The rapid development taking place around us has undoubtedly taken its toll on our environment. Whilst a conscious and collective effort is necessary to save our planet, the John Keells Group recognizes its responsibility in this regard as a conglomerate. Hence, whilst the Sustainability Initiative of the John Keells Group drives efforts at minimising the impact of the Group’s operations on the environment, the Foundation spearheads the Group’s commitment to conserve and promote the environment for the well being of present and future generations.
Plastic Recycling Project
In keeping with its commitment to protect and enhance the Environment, Keells Super, along with JKH’s CSR arm John Keells Foundation, announced a brand new initiative to recycle plastic bottles. This initiative is an “industry first” in Sri Lanka.
Nature Field Centre at Rumassala
The Nature Field Centre located in Rumassala, Galle is a collaboration of the Foundation with the Central Environment Authority (CEA) to facilitate experiential learning about the environment, primarily among schoolchildren of the Southern Province.

Paper Conservation Project
The Foundation’s Paper Conservation Project has set in place a process for the collection of waste paper from the John Keells Group’s business locations for shredding and recycling. In 2010/2011 628 trees were saved.
