John Keells Holdings PLC (JKH) was pronounced the overall winner at the 52nd Annual
Report Awards Ceremony 2016 organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri
Lanka (CA Sri Lanka). JKH and its other listed subsidiaries were the recipients of
twelve awards at the ceremony; recognised in their respective sectors and
sub-categories. This included a Gold award for the Management Commentary and a Silver
award for the inaugural Integrated Report published by the Holding Company, JKH. This
exemplary performance depicts the consistency in reporting excellence, where JKH has
been placed amongst the best for the 5th consecutive year since 2012; winning the
overall Gold award thrice and the first runner-up twice. This year’s report underlined
and emphasised the value the Group places on its many stakeholder relationships. In this
regard, JKH as a Group of companies takes every effort to give clarity to the
information we present and stay connected to our stakeholders.
Quoting from the JKH
Annual Report “…the single thread of John Keells’ intent; to create and share value by
building sustainable businesses of excellence, integrity and worth. Diverse networks and
synergies have evolved between John Keells and its many local and global partners,
linking businesses, consumers, individuals, families and communities and thousands of
people whose lives we touch every day. We believe that their success is ours. Our
consistent financial performance and manifest ability to generate sustainable long-term
value facilitate the endurance of these relationships, bringing together the John Keells
Group and the many stakeholders we serve; all seamlessly CONNECTED to drive the engine
of value that is your Company (JKH)”. Speaking at the acceptance of the overall award,
the Group Finance Director, Ronnie Peiris, stated that as a Group of Companies that are
constantly evolving, the complex task of management and financial reporting of a
conglomerate has seen new light in terms of professionalism and fiduciary duty through
the guidance of CA Sri Lanka.
In keeping with the Group’s conscious efforts to
emphasise higher efficiency and greater coherence in its reporting, sustainability
integration and civic responsibility initiatives were brought to the forefront in
creating a viable and long term oriented business model and thus, the Group strives to
deliver a well-balanced report with strategic focus and emphasis on its fiduciary duty
to the stakeholders and the shareholders of the entity.
The awards and accolades
received by the Group is a true culmination of the dedication, hard work and passion of
the Group’s Accounting, Corporate Finance, Sustainability and other functional teams.
The enthusiasm and energy of the various functions of the Group and their timely
handling of information for this compilation is an accurate showcase of the integrity
and precision with which all operations are handled at JKH. The Group also wishes to
recognise the contribution made by our lead auditors, Ernst and Young, Chartered
Accountants, for their in-depth expertise, and Emagewise (Private) Limited, for their
dedication and effort in designing the reports of JKH and its other Group
subsidiaries.
Evolving from this year, JKH will strive to deliver continued
excellence through the Annual Report. Our goal is to deliver a report that is balanced,
relevant, clear and insightful to keep you, our stakeholder connected to the complex
business and investment activities of the John Keells Group.
