On 09th September 2025, in commemoration of World Cleanup Day 2025, Plasticcycle partnered with the Pearl Protectors to conduct a nurdle clean-up at Egoda Uyana Beach, Panadura. A total of 26 volunteers from the Group actively participated in the initiative, collecting plastic nurdles as well as other types of plastic waste that had washed up along the shoreline.
The cleanup was organised in response to the nurdle spill caused by the sinking of MSC ELSA 03 off the coast of Kerala in late May, which has led to significant quantities of these plastic nurdles reaching the western coastline of Sri Lanka. Through this cleanup, the volunteers successfully recovered 97 kilograms of nurdles and plastic pollution from the beach.
